Cloud and precipitation particles are closely related with aerosol particles in the atmosphere. They are large uncertainties in the radiation budget of the earth. Cloud and precipitate processes have been studied in different groups. In the present interdisciplinary collaborative research project, nucleation of aerosols and clouds, formation of precipitation, time and space variation of clouds and aerosols, and interaction of cloud-aerosol process with radiation are studied by laboratory experiments, field observations and numerical modeling in corporation with cloud and aerosol groups. On the basis of laboratory experiments and field observations, aerosol processes will be implemented in the cloud-resolving model. Using the model, simulation experiments and prediction of clouds and aerosols are performed (Fig. 1). In cooperation with Center for Orbital and Suborbital Observations, in situ observations of cloud and aerosol particles in precipitation systems are performed using an aircraft and cloud particle sondes (Fig. 2). In cooperation with another project, Project for Solar-Terrestrial Climate Research, aerosol nucleation due to cosmic ray is examined by a laboratory experiment and simulation experiments of cloud and aerosol processes including the cosmic ray process are performed (Fig. 3).
