Announcement of ISEE Summer Internship for Undergraduate Students

The Institute for Space-Earth Environmental Research (ISEE), Nagoya University, offer the opportunity to work closely with faculty mentors on research projects. The opportunity is designed for students who wish to learn more about our graduate school and possibly to pursue an academic career in teaching and research.

(1) Support offered by ISEE

ISEE will support the cost for accommodation for those who need financial support to stay in Nagoya during the internship.
ISEE will provide a space for research in the laboratory. The students may use research facilities in ISEE under supervision of the ISEE mentors.
Please contact ISEE if the applicants want to use some campus accommodation.
Applicants are requested to cover costs for the trip to Nagoya and for insurances.

(Report meeting is planned in September 6, 2019).

Research Topics:
Study of the geospace and the upper atmosphere through data analysis of airglow images (with related lectures)
Study of the geospace and the atmosphere through data analysis of atmospheric electric field and auroral images obtained at auroral zone latitudes (with related lectures)
Qualifications: This opportunity is available for 2nd and 3rd grade of undergraduate students in Faculty of Science or Engineering.

Date: From September 9 (Mon) to September 13 (Fri), 2019

Research Topics:
Lecture and practice of AMS radiocarbon dating method
(Necessities for practice in laboratory and user fees of Nagoya AMS will be supported) Qualifications: This opportunity is available for 2nd and 3rd grade of undergraduate students and for master-course students.

Division: Division for Ionospheric and Magnetospheric Research
Number of accepted students: approximately 1-2
Date: About two weeks between August 26 (Mon) and September 13 (Fri), 2019
Place: ISEE, Nagoya University (Furo-cho, Chikusa-ku, Nagoya, Aichi, Japan)
Research Topics:
Investigation of relation between the upper atmospheric neutral density and geomagnetic
variations through study of related research papers and satellite data analysis
Qualifications: This opportunity is available for 2nd and 3rd grade of undergraduate students in Faculty of Science or Engineering.

(3) Application and selection procedures

Please send the following documents to Naoko Takemoto (Takemoto at isee.nagoya-u.ac.jp), secretary of ISEE (Center for International Collaborative Researches) by e-mail by July 15, 2019. The selection is made by the ISEE. The successful candidates will be noted by July 31, 2019.
