ISEE international workshop on “CHAMOS Workshop 2024”
2024-11-19
The CHAMOS Workshop was held as an ISEE international workshop at ISEE, Nagoya University, from October 28 to November 1, 2024. CHAMOS (Chemical Aeronomy in the Mesosphere and Ozone in the Stratosphere) is an ongoing scientific international collaboration focusing on energetic particle precipitation and related atmospheric effects. This workshop has been held every year for 20 years, and this is the first workshop held in Japan. In total, 21 participants attended from Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory (SGO), University of Oulu (Finland), Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI; Finland), University of Otago (New Zealand), and ISEE (Japan).
The objective of this workshop is to share knowledge and have a comprehensive discussion based on each research result about observation, such as the magnetosphere with ARASE satellite, the ionosphere with EISCAT/EISCAT_3D radar and spectral riometers, and the middle atmosphere with millimeter-wave radiometers, and model simulations of the magnetosphere plasma, ion chemistry, atmospheric dynamics, and meteorological field. Our final goal is to understand the mechanisms of atmospheric response to energetic particle precipitation (EPP). This workshop profoundly relates to the ISEE Interdisciplinary Research Project “Energetic Particle Chain -Effects on the Middle/Lower Atmosphere from Energetic Particle Precipitations- (PI: Tac Nakajima).”
A paper based on the findings of this workshop is currently being written and will be submitted to an international peer-reviewed journal.
